Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krSingeumseong Fortress, in Geumgok-ri, Gyeolseong-myeon, Hongseong-gun, South Chungcheong Province, was built on a low hill close to flat ground at an elevation of 40-60 m, and is a double-walled fortress with an inner wall and an outer wall. The full circuit of the wall is 645 m long and 2-3 m high. The wall survives best on the north, west and south sides, and gate sites are presumed to have stood on the north and south. Many artefacts, including pottery, have been excavated within the fortress. Built on a flat hill and close in form to a plains fortress, it appears to have been constructed to govern the local population rather than for defence, and is regarded as an important site showing the form of an eupseong, a walled town serving as a local administrative centre.
