Yangneunggil Yang Yeo-gong Grave, Chungju
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

Yangneunggil was a meritorious subject who helped found Goryeo, and is honoured by the Chungju Yang clan as their founding ancestor. His grave has an unusual form, surrounded by hoseok (retaining stones) carved as octagonal, bamboo-joint-shaped corner pillars. Although parts have weathered and some sections have been lost and later repaired, it remains a rare surviving example of a Goryeo-period tomb. Yang Yeo-gong, Yangneunggil's descendant in the fifteenth generation, was active in the early Joseon period; after passing the state examination he rose to the post of jeongnang in the Ministry of Rites, and was known as a filial son. Yangneunggil and Yang Yeo-gong occupy an important place in the history of notable figures from the Chungju region, and since their graves survive in their original form at their original location, there is a need to protect them together as a single site.
