Seonggokjaesa is a house built to guard the ancestral altar of Jang Gil of the Andong Jang clan, and to prepare ritual offerings for him. He was one of the Samtaesa (the 'Three Grand Preceptors'), who rendered great service in helping King Taejo of Goryeo, Wang Geon, unify the Later Three Kingdoms. The building was constructed in 1806 and rebuilt in 1853, and in 1966 its gate pavilion, Yeonghwiru Pavilion, was built.
