This is the tomb of Han Eung-in (1554-1614), pen name Baekjolje, a civil official of mid-Joseon. He passed the state examination in 1576, the ninth year of King Seonjo, and held a succession of offices; in 1589 he exposed the Jeong Yeo-rip conspiracy and was rewarded with the post of Counselor of the Board of Taxation, and the following year was named a First Merit Subject for Quelling the Rebellion. During the Imjin War he accompanied the king to Pyeongyang and worked to defend the Imjingang River, but was heavily defeated after being deceived by a decoy operation of the Japanese general Kato. He then crossed to Liaodong to request that Ming China urgently send relief troops, and when the Ming general Yi Yeo-song (Li Rusong) arrived, Han was given the task of receiving him. He continued to travel to and from Ming China as an envoy on several further occasions while holding a range of offices, and in 1607, the fortieth year of King Seonjo, he rose to State Councilor of the Right. The tomb is a joint burial with his wife of the Jeonju Yi clan, and the base of the mound is girdled with a two-tier ring of kerbstones. In front of the mound stand a gravestone, an offering table and an incense-burner stone, flanked on either side by a pair of manjuseok (stone pillars marking a tomb from afar) and a pair of civil-official statues. To the right of the burial ground stands a sindobi, a stele erected beside a tomb to commemorate the lifetime achievements of a king or high official, for which Kim Ryu composed the inscription and Han In-geup wrote the calligraphy; it was erected in 1642, the twentieth year of King Injo.
