Although the original name of the temple once located at Seoboksa Temple Site is not known, excavations have shown it to be a typical Baekje temple layout, with the middle gate, the pagoda (a wooden pagoda), and the main hall (geumdang) arranged in that order along a north-south axis. Finds from the site - including chimi (owl-tail-shaped roof-ridge ornaments), gilt-bronze plates, a clay Buddha head, gilt-bronze belt fittings, a bronze lamp stand, and fragments of wall paintings - suggest that this was an important temple with the strong character of a wonchal, a temple built to pray for the wellbeing of the royal family, closely tied to the Baekje royal house. The construction techniques used at the site are also highly refined, making it a valuable site for the study of Baekje temple architecture and one of great worth for preservation.
