This is a site where Bronze Age dolmens and Silla-period tombs lie mixed together. Excavation revealed a total of 27 features, of which 16 are dolmens (jiseongmyo) from the Bronze Age, dated to the 5th–6th centuries BC, with the remaining features being Silla-period tombs. Most of the dolmen features retain two to four capstones; features lacking a capstone appear to have lost it through cultivation. Artefacts recovered include plain pottery (mumun pottery) and polished stone tools. The Silla-period tombs are mostly side-entrance stone-chamber tombs, surrounded by a ring of stones (hoseok) meant to protect the grave. Because Bronze Age dolmens and Silla tombs occupy the same location, the tumuli in Aju-dong, Geoje show that the siting conditions for graves were the same across both periods, providing important material for research into the tombs of the Geoje region.
