Yesan Cathedral is a typical three-aisled (basilica-type) church building. Although the overall composition of its exterior is simple, it is a modern church building of excellent proportion, with features such as an eaves cornice band and arched window surrounds. Construction began in 1933 and was completed in 1934. Built by a Korean priest, it retains its original form well and is therefore of very high conservation value. As an architectural style that absorbed Western architectural culture directly and adapted it to local conditions, rather than accepting or mixing in Japanese architectural culture, it is an important resource for the study of the history of modern architecture.
