The grave is located at the top of a hill behind Bonbok Village, Angseong-myeon, Chungju; the absence of a surrounding embankment around the burial mound reflects the grave style of the sadaebu (scholar-official class) of the late 17th century (the 15th year of King Hyojong, 1689), and a spirit-path stele composed by Heo Mok still stands in the village below. Kim Se-ryeom was a figure symbolic of the Joseon tongsinsa, the diplomatic missions sent to Japan, and he left behind many anecdotes from his journey to Japan in 1636, including the story that he performed the "tugeum" (casting away of gold), an act emphasising his incorruptibility.
