세종왕자한남군묘역 · 世宗王子漢南君墓域

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the grave of Prince Hannam (1429–1457), posthumous title Jeongdogong, a member of the Joseon royal family. He was the twelfth son of King Sejong; his mother was Lady Hyebin of the Yang clan. In 1441, the twenty-third year of King Sejong, when the king travelled with the queen to Gamagok valley in Onsu-hyeon, Prince Hannam was credited with guarding the palace in the king's absence and was granted the title Hannamgun (Prince Hannam). When King Sejo took the throne in 1455, Prince Hannam plotted rebellion together with Prince Geumseong, Prince Yeongpung and Lady Hyebin of the Yang clan, and was exiled to Geumsan. His land and slaves were subsequently confiscated, and he was moved to Hamyang, where he lived out his exile until his death in 1457, the third year of King Sejo. The base of the mound is encircled by a dulleseok (a stone curb), and in front of the grave stands a sangseok (a stone table for offerings), flanked by four mangjuseok (stone pillars marking a grave from a distance), two munin-seok (stone statues of civil officials) and two dongja statues (stone figures of child attendants). Two grave steles have been erected: the one in front of the grave is of recent date, while the one on the left was erected in the fourth month of 1557, the twelfth year of King Myeongjong. At the entrance to the burial ground stands a sindobi (a stele erected beside a road near a tomb to commemorate the lifetime achievements of a king or high official).
