This was the administrative seat established in the Yangju area of Gyeonggi Province during the Joseon period, the site of the government office that governed Yangju-mok for 417 years, down to the Japanese colonial period. It is said to have been restored in the Goju area in 1506 and later moved to Yuyang-ri, south of Bulgoksan Mountain. Records relating to the Yangju government office site, such as the Gyeonggi Eupji (Gyeonggi Gazetteer) and the Yangjumok Eupji (Gazetteer of Yangju-mok), list 31 facilities in all, including a guest house, a prison, a county granary, a relief granary, an armoury, a gunpowder store, and government offices. As Yangju's administrative seat was relocated to Uijeongbu during the Japanese colonial period and the Korean War, the site fell into ruin, so the original scale of the office can no longer be determined; however, given that Yangju held the administrative rank of a "mok" (a major county), it can be inferred that the office was once of considerable size. In 1996, when the area around the Yangju government office site was designated a pilot cultural village, one Dongheon (main hall) building was restored in 1997 as part of the Wongol Cultural Village development project, and about twenty songdeokbi—steles inscribed with words praising the virtues of officials who had served as magistrate of Yangju—were erected in one corner of the courtyard. Following an archaeological excavation carried out as part of a further restoration project, the site has since been preserved in its present state.
