The Namyang Hong clan burial ground, around San 30, Hongbeop-ri, Seosin-myeon, Hwaseong, contains the scattered graves of Hong Hyeong, Hong Eon-pil, Hong Seom, Hong Dam, Hong Jin-do and Hong Jong-rok, among others. The grave marker (myopyo) of Hong Hyeong was erected in 1670, its text composed by Jo Gwang-jo and written out by Song Si-yeol; his grave stele (myogal), with text composed by Sin Yong-gae, was erected in 1518. Chief State Councillor (yeonguijeong) Hong Eon-pil was the son of Hong Hyeong; his sindobi (spirit-road memorial stele) was erected in 1549, its inscription composed by Jeong Sa-ryong and written by Song In. Chief State Councillor Hong Seom, the son of Hong Eon-pil, has a sindobi erected in 1586, its inscription composed by Kim Gwi-yeong, the seal-script (jeonseo) heading written by Nam Eung-un, and the main text famously written by Han Ho, known by his pen name Seokbong. Hong Dam was the son of Hong Eon-gwang; the inscription on his sindobi was composed by Ryu Geun and written by O Jun. The sindobi of Hong Jin-do was erected in 1749, its inscription composed by Yi Ui-hyeon, written out by Hong Jin-do's great-great-grandson Hong Bong-jo, with the seal-script heading by Kim Jin-sang. The grave stele of Hong Jong-rok was erected in 1615, its text composed by O Eok-ryeong and written by his son Hong Heon. The steles of the Namyang Hong clan burial ground were produced with outstanding craftsmanship, their inscriptions composed and written by the foremost literary scholars and calligraphers of the time. This allows us to gauge the standing of the Namyang Hong clan in that period, and the civil-official stone statues (munin-seok) at Hong Eon-pil's grave are likewise fine examples representative of the era.
