Eumaeija Burial Ground
음애이자묘역 · 陰崖李耔墓域

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krYi Ja (pen name Eumae, 1480–1533), one of the "Gimyo sages" — scholars persecuted in the Gimyo Purge of 1519 — was of the Hansan Yi clan and a descendant of Yi Saek. After being implicated in the Gimyo Purge of the Literati in 1519 and dismissed from office, he lived in seclusion, devoting the rest of his life to scholarship. At the highest point of the Eumae Yi Ja burial ground is the grave of Yi Ja's father, Yi Ye-gyeon, below which lie the graves of Yi Un and of Yi Ja himself. Yi Ja's grave is a joint burial with his first wife, Lady Nam of the Uiryeong Nam clan, and his second wife, Lady Chae of the Incheon Chae clan, and the mound is built as a twin mound. In front of the mound, long dressed stones have been set to keep the turf from collapsing. Before the mound stand a spirit-resting stone, an offering table and an incense-burner stone, and in front of these is a civil-official statue wearing a gold crown and court robes. The grave marker to the east of Yi Ja's grave, in the form of a roof-stone set on a square base, was erected in 1876.
