This site accumulated over roughly 100,000 years since the last interglacial period, with Paleolithic, Mesolithic, Bronze Age and Three Kingdoms period cultural layers stacked in sequence. It is the first instance in the South Jeolla region of three Paleolithic cultural layers being found stratified at a single site, and each layer contains stone tools spanning from the Middle to the Late Paleolithic. The various stone tools recovered from the brown clay layer, thought to be the Mesolithic cultural layer, are valued as important material for understanding the cultural transition from the Paleolithic to the Neolithic. In the Bronze Age cultural layer, two house sites were excavated along with perforated pottery, a half-moon-shaped stone knife, a stone adze, a stone chisel and arrowheads, indicating that this was a dwelling site. Many dolmens, the burial monuments of the Bronze Age, have been surveyed in the South Jeolla region, but investigations of dwelling sites are rare, which makes this discovery especially significant. In the Three Kingdoms period cultural layer, seven stone-lined tombs thought to date to around the 5th century were identified, yielding grave goods such as a spindle whorl, an iron sickle, an iron axe and a crystal necklace. The Suncheon Jungnae-ri Site is of great value as a rare and important Paleolithic site in the South Jeolla region, and at the same time as a site where Bronze Age and Three Kingdoms period remains have been confirmed together.
