The Cheonjugyo Bridge Gyouchonteo on Seonggeosan Mountain, Cheonan comprises julmudeom, row graves holding the remains of believers who lived out their faith around Seonggeosan Mountain and were martyred during the Byeongin persecution, together with the remains of a gyouchon, a village community of Catholic believers. In graves nos. 1 and 2 are interred the remains of five believers who were arrested at Sohakgol and martyred at Hwangsaebawi Rock in Gongju on 8 November 1866 — Bae Mun-ho (Peter), Choe Cheon-yeo (Peter), Choe Jong-yeo (Lazarus), Go Ui-jin (Joseph) and a daughter-in-law of the Chae family — together with unidentified martyrs. The foot of Seonggeosan Mountain in Cheonan was a place where Catholics lived out their faith from the early nineteenth century through and beyond the period of persecution. In particular, the gyouchon at Sohakgol here was the centre of the pastoral work of Father Kallae, who had charge of parts of Chungcheong, Gyeongsang and Gyeonggi provinces, and it is a site where the topography, everyday remains and records of a gyouchon during the Catholic persecutions have been preserved.
