Gwangyang Buramsanseong Fortress
광양불암산성 · 光陽佛岩山城
Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis mountain fortress stands in Bipyeong-ri, Jinsang-myeon, Gwangyang-si, Jeollanam-do, built by encircling the lower slopes of the mountain summit. A small fortress also stands on Samgakbong Peak opposite it, and together with Buramsanseong Fortress, it appears to have defended Bichon-hyeon County. The fortress forms an elongated trapezoid running east to west: the total circumference of its walls is 500 m, its highest point is 334 m, and the width of its walls is 530–600 m. Roof tiles and earthenware fragments found inside the fortress show the same characteristics as artefacts excavated in other Baekje areas, suggesting the fortress was built during the Baekje period. Beyond its bearing on the ancient history of this region, the fortress is an important source for understanding Baekje's system of local governance.
