Sacheon Geumseongnito Fortress Site
사천금성리토성지 · 泗川金成里土城址

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krLocated on the hill behind Geumseong-ri, Gonmyeong-myeon, Sacheon, Gyeongsangnam-do, this is a hill fortress built mostly of earth in a belt-like shape around the slope just below the summit. The fortress had a circumference of about 2 km and covered an area of about 8,000 pyeong, but today only traces remain — about 100 m in circumference and 1.5 m in width — with most of the fortress site now reclaimed as orchards. Many artifacts have been excavated here, including a gilt-bronze horse figurine, an iron long sword, fragments of plain coarse pottery, and roof-tile fragments. In particular, a roof-tile fragment bears the incised characters "三井" (Samjeong), leading scholars to date it to the Silla period. The exact time of construction is not certain, but judging from fortress-building activity in the Gyeongsangnam-do region and the artifacts excavated here, the fortress is presumed to have been built during the Three Kingdoms period.
