Naju Station was a major station on the Honam Line, opening for service on 1 July 1913, and it holds historical significance as the birthplace of the 1929 Gwangju Student Independence Movement. The station building retains most of its original scale and exterior from the time of its construction, although the original roof tiles have since been replaced with corrugated slate and the position of the ticket gate has been altered. Inside the station building, the ticket-checking scene and the station staff at work in the days when Naju Station was operating have been reproduced.
