Iuimuui Tomb and Spirit-path Stele, Dangjin
당진 이의무의 묘 및 신도비 · 唐津 李宜茂의 墓 및 神道碑

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe Tomb and Spirit-path Stele of Yi Ui-mu, Dangjin form part of a burial ground belonging to the Deoksu Yi clan, which contains about thirteen graves including that of Yi Ui-mu himself. Yi Ui-mu's tomb is surrounded by a gokjang, a curved wall enclosing a grave; although the burial itself is a single interment, the mound is formed as a ssangbun, a pair of round twin mounds. The tomb measures about 18 m in circumference and 2 m in height, with a yongmi, the 'dragon-tail' ridge running from the mound, of about 3 m, and its gokjang wall is about 30 m long. The burial ground has no gyecheseok, the stone marking the boundary between terraces, and is instead divided into an upper terrace and a lower terrace. The upper terrace holds a sangseok, a stone table for offerings, while the lower terrace has a new stele, a pair of stone child-attendant figures known as dongjasang, and the spirit-path stele set on a stone tortoise base, or gwibu. Tombs enclosed by a gokjang wall of this kind are very rare within the province, and because this one survives largely in its original form it is of considerable historical value; together with the Spirit-path Stele of Yi Ui-mu, already designated a Chungcheongnam-do Cultural Heritage Material, it has accordingly been designated a Monument by Chungcheongnam-do.
