Muan Namallitaebong Peak Tumuli
무안남안리태봉고분군 · 務安南安里台峰古墳群

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krTaebong lies at the end of a ridge where one branch of Mahyeopbong Peak descends southward and then runs west, and the tumuli stand on a small peak of the hilly ground to the north of the village. This hilly ground is flanked on both sides by ridgelines descending from Mahyeopbong Peak; coming down westward from terrain 60.3 m above sea level, it narrows and then forms a small peak again at around 40 m above sea level, where the tumuli are located, directly behind the memorial shrine (jegak) of the Bae clan of Dalseong. Five tumuli are gathered at the summit of this low hilly ground: a large tomb occupies the centre, three tombs are arranged in a row to the south-east, and one tomb stands to the north-west. Known to local villagers as malmudeom, literally "horse tombs", a folk term for large ancient burial mounds, all of these tombs have been looted, but their shapes survive relatively well. Tomb No. 1, in the centre, is a large tomb, round in shape. There is a section at its top thought to mark where looting took place, and traces of a surrounding ditch (jugu, a boundary ditch dug around a mound) remain to the south-east and north-west. Of the three tombs south-east of Tomb No. 1, the northernmost is Tomb No. 2, the middle one Tomb No. 3, and the southernmost Tomb No. 4; all are circular in plan. The tomb to the north-west of Tomb No. 1 is Tomb No. 5, which is likewise circular.
