Punggogimjosun Burial Ground
풍고김조순묘역 · 楓皐金祖淳墓域

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the burial ground of Kim Jo-sun (1765-1832), Yeongan Buwongun (a title granted to the father of a queen), and his wife, Lady Sim of Cheongyang (1766-1828), Cheongyang Bubuin (the corresponding title granted to his wife). Kim Jo-sun's ancestral seat was Andong. King Jeongjo selected his daughter, who later became Queen Sunwon, the principal consort of King Sunjo. When Queen Sunwon was invested as queen consort, Kim Jo-sun was granted the title Yeongan Buwongun. At Kim Jo-sun's grave, in front of the joint burial mound, a spirit-resting stone, an offering table, an incense-burner stone and a stone lantern are arranged in order, with ornamental stone pillars also set up on either side of the burial ground. The grave marker stands to the east of the spirit-resting stone; it takes the form of a roof-stone atop a square base, with the stele body made of a black sandstone known as osak. The large characters on the front of the grave marker are in the hand of King Cheoljong, with the seal-script characters for "royal brush" carved in the upper right. The inscription on the back was composed by Jo Du-sun, in characters assembled from the calligraphy of Han Ho. At the southeast end of the lower part of the burial ground stands a pavilion housing a spirit-path stele, in the same roof-stone-and-square-base form as the grave marker. The royally composed inscription for the spirit-path stele, written by King Cheoljong, was transcribed, both its seal-script title and its main text, by Kim Jo-sun's grandson through a daughter, Nam Byeong-cheol.
