Dolmens are representative tombs of the Bronze Age, known mainly as the tombs of a ruling class with economic wealth or political power. They have a huge capstone exposed above ground, beneath which lie support stones, a burial precinct, and a burial chamber, though the form varies greatly depending on region and period. They are generally classified into the table-style type, with the chamber above ground, and the base-style (or go-board-style) type, with the chamber underground. The Oesammi-dong Dolmen stands on the northwest slope of Banwolbong Peak, at an elevation of 30 m, with the Hwanggujicheon Stream flowing north-south to its west. There are two dolmens about 1 m apart, referred to as No. 1 to the north and No. 2 to the south. Dolmen No. 1 has the unusual structure of a capstone laid over support stones that themselves lie flat on the ground, and is understood as a table-style dolmen or a variant of it. However, since there is no other known case of a burial chamber built from slab-shaped support stones laid flat, it is also possible that the support stones simply toppled under the weight of the capstone. The capstone is of granite, rectangular in shape and 2.3 m long, with fifteen cupmarks on its upper surface. The eastern and western support stones are about 1.75-1.8 m long; when the burial chamber is reconstructed, it proves large enough to lay an adult body out straight. For Dolmen No. 2, only the capstone is exposed above ground; it is roughly triangular in plan and thin, with three cupmarks confirmed on its flat upper surface.
