This is a settlement and burial site dating from the Neolithic to the Gaya period, located in Sonam-ri, Danseong-myeon, and situated on a point bar formed along the banks of the Namgang River. In connection with reinforcement works on the Namgang Dam, the site was excavated three times between 1985 and 1999 by the Institute of Gaya Cultural Heritage at Silla University, and numerous features and artefacts were discovered. According to on-site briefing materials and various reports, features of many kinds accumulated here over a long span of time: Neolithic pit-dwellings and stone-mound features; Bronze Age pit-dwellings and stone-cist tombs; Proto-Three Kingdoms period pit-dwellings, pit features, wooden coffin tombs and belt-shaped features; and Gaya period house sites and square stone-chamber tombs. Of these, the Proto-Three Kingdoms period features consisted mainly of 161 house sites, together with 8 pit features, 1 stone-chamber tomb and 1 belt-shaped feature, making 171 features in all. The Proto-Three Kingdoms period house sites are generally circular in plan, 7–10 m in diameter, larger than those of the Bronze Age, and their floors were compacted with clay or hardened by fire-setting. Hearths fitted with a fire-mouth were also identified inside some of them. Most of the artefacts are reddish-brown soft-fired earthenware, including a vessel with an ox-horn-shaped handle, as well as jars and dishes.
