The Gwangyang Sinjaechoesandu Remains Stele stands at the entrance to Bongyangsa Temple. It records the life and achievements of Choe San-du, pen name Sinjae, one of the Gimyo sages — scholars persecuted in the Gimyo purge of 1519 during the reign of King Jungjong of Joseon. The stele was erected in 1775, the fifty-first year of King Yeongjo, its inscription composed by Kim Yak-haeng, who served as magistrate of Suncheon from June 1774 to December 1775. The stele has no capstone, consisting only of a stele body and a pedestal.
