Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis site was designated Jeollanam-do Monument No. 231 on 27 January 2005, under the name Wando Gogeumdo Dolmen Group, located around San 34-1, Gagyo-ri, Gogeum-myeon, Wando County. Dolmens are burial remains representative of the Bronze Age, and the Gogeumdo dolmen group is the largest concentration found on any island in the region. The recovery of polished stone daggers, stone knives, and stone adzes from the dolmens around Gogeumdo Island indicates that there was active cultural exchange with inland areas. The Gogeumdo dolmen group is of considerable academic value as important material for understanding Bronze Age burial culture in island regions.
