Sacheon Ucheollido Island Kiln Site
사천우천리도요지 · 泗川牛川里陶窯址

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krBased on artefacts collected from the surface, this site is presumed to be a local kiln that produced buncheong ware (grey-green stoneware decorated with white slip) in the early Joseon period, and white porcelain and onggi (earthenware storage jars) in the late Joseon period (17th–18th centuries). It lies beside Guryongmot Pond in Ucheon village, Sanam-myeon, with part of the kiln site submerged beneath the pond's water. The kiln site extends along the hillside for about 200 m in length and some 30 m in width, and if the submerged portion beneath the pond is included, its total area is considered to be fairly extensive. Fragments of the kiln wall, together with pieces of buncheong ware, porcelain and onggi, have been found in the surrounding area, making this an important source of material for the study of the region's ceramic history.
