The Go Gyeong-myeong Spirit-path Stele in Jangseong records the life and deeds of Go Gyeong-myeong (1533–1592), posthumously titled Chungnyeolgong. It consists of a gwibu (tortoise-shaped base), a stele body, and a gacheomseok (capstone), and is thought to have been erected around the eighteenth century. The inscription was composed by Yun Geun-su (1537–1616) — younger brother of Chief State Councillor Yun Du-su, and himself a minister of Justice, of Personnel and of Rites — while the calligraphy was written by Go Jeong-bong (pen name Sochon), a seventh-generation descendant of Go Gyeong-myeong who served as Director of the Office of Royal Relatives (Donnyeongbu). Go Gyeong-myeong, courtesy name Isun and pen name Jebong, belonged to the Jangheung Go clan. He was the son of Go Maeng-yeong, who had served as a royal secretary and as Director of the Office of the Censor-General. He passed the jinsa licentiate examination in 1552, the seventh year of King Myeongjong, and took first place in the higher civil service examination in 1558. He went on to hold posts including Assistant Section Chief of the Board of Taxation, Scribe of the Crown Prince Tutorial Office, Assistant Section Chief of the Board of Punishments, Magistrate of Yeongam, head of the Office of Diplomatic Correspondence, and Governor of Dongnae. During the Japanese invasions, he raised a righteous army of 6,000 men in Damyang, and died fighting at Geumsan together with his second son, Go In-hu. He was posthumously promoted to Assistant State Councillor of the Left, with the posthumous title Chungnyeol. The graves of General Go Gyeong-myeong and his sons were originally in Hwasun, but in March 1609 they were moved to their present location at Odongchon, Yeongcheon-ri, Jangseong-eup. The spirit-path stele stands at the entrance to the grave.
