A beacon station (bongsudae) was an old means of communication that used torches and smoke to send urgent news: signallers climbed high mountains and lit fires, sending signals by smoke in the daytime and by firelight at night. Jisepo Beacon Station in Geoje stands at the summit of Yeonjibong Peak, locally known as Saetpungije, at an elevation of 214m in Jisepo-ri, Irun-myeon. This beacon station differs from the neighbouring Wahyeon Beacon Station in Geoje in both overall form and construction method. At Wahyeon there is almost no space between the beacon-fire platform and the protective wall, whereas at Jisepo the beacon-fire platform does not survive clearly, but the area enclosed by the protective wall is very large. The summit was levelled and widened, and the stone wall forming a circular enclosure more than 25m in diameter stands to a considerable height and is well preserved. Inside, a commoner's grave has since been built, and although the form of the beacon-fire platform cannot be clearly made out, the protective wall is very well preserved and entrance facilities can also be confirmed. Judging from its location and the lie of the land, it is presumed to have been built to link Wahyeon Beacon Station with Ongnyeobong Peak and Gangmangsan Beacon Station. Jisepo Beacon Station is among the larger beacon stations in area, and because its overall state of preservation is good, it is assessed as having high conservation value.
