Beacon Station on Seolheulsan Mountain, Namhae
남해 설흘산 봉수대 · 南海 雪屹山 烽燧臺

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krSeolheulsan Beacon Station is built on the summit of Seolheulsan Mountain (490m above sea level), on the southern coast of Nam-myeon, Namhae-gun. It is built of stone on a foundation of natural bedrock; in plan it is circular, though part of it is angular. The eastern section survives relatively intact, but the western wall has collapsed considerably. The collapsed sections were partly rebuilt in later times, making it difficult to determine the overall structure precisely; however, since the eastern wall is in good condition, it is judged that the structure of Joseon-period beacon stations can be understood in relatively fine detail there. This beacon station appears to have received signals from Namhae Geumsan Beacon Station to the east and relayed them onward, connecting with Mangunsan Mountain inland or with Dolsando Beacon Station in Suncheon. In the Sinjeung dongguk yeoji seungnam it is recorded as the "Soheulsan Beacon", but the mountain is now called Seolheulsan. A notable feature is the good condition of its stonework.
