This well was built in 1883, the twentieth year of Emperor Gojong's reign in Joseon, at the same time Incheon's port was opened. It long served as a source of water for daily life and drinking for local residents, but with the spread of the piped water supply it has fallen out of use, and only the form of the well remains today. The inside of the well is built up in a round, cylindrical shaft using natural stones and dressed stones, while the part visible above ground is finished as a round concrete rim. In 1967, a hexagonal pavilion with a tiled roof was built over the well to protect it, and it bears a wooden signboard inscribed by the well-known calligrapher Park Se-rim, pen name Dongjeong.
