Dujeong armour — a type of protective garment studded with metal rivets that developed in the late Joseon period — survives today in only a few examples. The armour and helmet of Dongnae Yeong are said to have been worn as ceremonial dress during the memorial rites at Songgongdan Altar. Compared with precisely dated armour held in the Army Museum, the Dongnae Yeong Gapju is thought to have been made by a professional craftsman who faithfully followed the conventions of late Joseon armour. Not only does this artefact embody the loyalty of the patriots who died for their country in this region, but it is also a valuable record of the appearance of late Joseon armour and helmets, and it is regarded as an important resource for the study of Korean military officials' dress.
