This old house is said to have been built in 1724, the first year of King Yeongjo of Joseon, by Park Jeong-taek, the magistrate of Dangjin. The current owner's great-great-grandfather bought it from Park Jeong-taek's great-grandson, and the family has lived here for five generations since. Originally the complex included a main house (anchae), a detached men's quarters (sarangchae), a shrine and a servants' quarters, but only the main house survives today. The main house measures six bays across the front and two bays along the side, and has a hip-and-gable roof (paljakjibung) whose sloping sides form the shape of the character 八 (eight). Stone objects scattered across the spacious grounds give a sense of the everyday life of the past, and the building, which preserves the appearance of an upper-middle-class residence, dates from the late Joseon period.
