Andong Yeandongganjae Hall Historic House
안동예안동간재고택 · 安東禮安東澗齋故宅

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krBuilt in 1844, the tenth year of King Heonjong, this house was moved to its present site in 1975 because its original location was submerged by the construction of Andong Dam. It was originally built by the Pyeongsan Shin clan, but in 1940 the present owner bought the house and renamed it 'Donggan-jae' after his own father's pen name. The house consists of a square, ㅁ-shaped main hall (anchae) and a straight, 一-shaped men's quarters (sarangchae) built separately from it. The anchae retains the typical form of a residential hall from this region, while the sarangchae stands apart as its own block. It has a three-bay front and a two-bay side, and its roof is a splendid hipped-and-gabled tiled roof, its sides forming the shape of the Chinese character for eight (八).
