These are relics of Bak Hae-yong (1885-?), a civil official of the late Joseon period, comprising thirteen items in all: a set of jobok (ceremonial court robes) worn when paying a morning audience to the king, a jebok (ritual robe) worn for ancestral rites, and official robes worn for everyday administrative duties. The jeokchoui, the red outer robe worn as part of the jobok, is 90 cm long, with a sleeve length (hwajang) of 92.5 cm, a chest width (pum) of 50 cm, and a sleeve opening of 59 cm. Three knot buttons are attached a little below the back shoulder line to secure the husu, a decorative panel hung down the back. The cheongchoui, worn underneath the jeokchoui, is blue overall with black fabric trim along the edges; it measures 123 cm in length, 48 cm in chest width and 56 cm in sleeve opening, and for ease of wearing it is attached to the skirt worn beneath it. The daedae (sash) and husu are likewise attached to each other: the daedae is a doubled sash of red and white silk, 81.5 cm long and 64 cm wide, while the husu is embroidered with clouds and cranes on red silk, with two gold rings attached at its upper sides. The geumgwan, the gold crown worn with the jebok, has gold applied only around the hairpin holes and the vine-pattern areas, to express solemnity, the rest being left black. Also among the items are a samo, the cap worn by civil and military officials for everyday duties; a dallyeong, a robe with a round collar resembling today's durumagi, from which it takes its name; a gakdae (waist belt); shoes; a hopae, an identity tag made of black hwayangmok with tassels hanging from it; and a saseon, a face-screening fan made of silk. All were worn by Bak Hae-yong when he passed the civil service examination in the 31st year of Emperor Gojong's reign (1894) and served as a royal secretary (seungji). They survive in remarkably well-preserved original condition, making them valuable material for the study of Korean costume.
