A house facing east on the western slope of the mountain ridge that encircles Changdae-ri, standing at the highest point among the dwellings of the village. It is said to have been the house of a powerful family surnamed Park who, in the Joseon period, managed all the paddies and fields of Changdae-ri and collected taxes from them; villagers have long regarded the site as auspicious, believing it to lie at the centre of a geomantic configuration in the shape of a reclining cow. The house is laid out as a loosely closed square formed by an L-shaped women's quarters and an L-shaped outer quarters facing each other across a central courtyard. The women's quarters is a typical Gyeonggi-style building centred on a two-bay wooden-floored hall, with the main room and side room set to either side and a kitchen placed in front of the main room. The outer quarters comprises an L-shaped servants' quarters, which includes the main gate, and the men's quarters. Since 1995 it has been used as a Buddhist temple, and is currently used as Jeongbeopsa, a temple of the eighth diocese of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism under Jikjisa Temple. Apart from the women's quarters' kitchen having been converted to a standing, Western-style kitchen, there is no trace of rebuilding. The timber framing is in good condition and well finished, and the house retains its original form comparatively well. Changdae-ri Old House, built around the 19th century, is of heritage value as a typical example of an upper-middle-class dwelling of the Gyeonggi region.
