Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krA myoji, or epitaph tablet, is an inscription carved into a stone or ceramic plate and buried inside a tomb, recording the deceased's name, dates of birth and death, achievements, and the tomb's orientation; it is also called a gwangji. This epitaph was found inside the tomb of Sin Hwaguk, father of Sin Gap, who escorted King Seonjo as far as Uiju during the Japanese invasions of 1592 and went on to serve as Minister of War. The epitaph was excavated together with a white porcelain covered box, and all three pieces are rectangular porcelain plates. On a white ground, the achievements of Sin Hwaguk's ancestors and descendants are recorded in blue characters, and both the form of the plates and the writing are well preserved.
