This is a typical upper-class house of the late Joseon period. It originally had a full complement of buildings, including a main hall and a shrine, but today only the men's quarters and the servants' quarters survive. The servants' quarters has a straight, one-line plan with the main gate set in the middle, and the men's quarters, also of straight plan, was built in 1871, the eighth year of Emperor Gojong's reign. A wooden-floored hall (daecheong) occupies the centre, flanked on both sides by ondol rooms heated by an underfloor system.
