A bangsatap is a stone tower built where an ominous sign appeared in a particular direction from the village, or where the geomantic energy of the land was considered weak; it is an object of folk belief raised to keep out impurity and evil and so bring peace to the village. This bangsatap stands on the eastern side of a pair of such towers facing each other east and west along the coastal road near Eongmul, in Molraemul Village. It is 402 cm high, and on its summit rests a long stone about 50 cm long shaped like a bird, said to have been placed there to ward off misfortune coming from the north.
