Yongsumaeulbangsatap No. 2
용수마을방사탑2호 · 용수마을防邪塔2호

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the southern of two bangsatap that stand facing the sea at Yongsu Village, arranged north to south. A bangsatap is a stone tower raised collectively by a village at a spot where an ill omen had appeared in some direction, or where the land's energy was felt to be weak; it is an object of folk faith meant to block the passage of impurity and evil and keep the village at peace. The bangsatap of this village were built to reinforce the weak energy coming from the direction of the sea; both towers have a stone shaped like a bird's beak set on top, and so are also known as 'Maejujegi'. This tower in particular stands where there is a place called 'Hwaseongmul', and so is called 'Hwaseongmultap'; the bird's-beak-shaped stone on top of the tower faces west, toward Chagwido Island.
