A bangsatap is a stone tower raised collectively by a village community at a point where an ominous sign had been seen in some direction, or where the gi (vital energy) of the terrain was considered weak; it serves as an object of folk belief meant to block the entry of impurity and evil and to keep the village at peace. Four bangsatap stand in a north-south line to the west of the residential area of Mureung-ri. They were built to reinforce the weak energy of this spot, known as "Apnon," and to ward off impurity and misfortune, and overall they appear to have been positioned with the balance of eum and yang (yin and yang) in mind. This tower is one of the four, but it has suffered such severe damage that its original form can no longer be determined.
