A bangsatap is a stone tower raised collectively by a village community at a point where an ominous sign had been seen in some direction, or where the gi (vital energy) of the terrain was considered weak; it serves as an object of folk belief meant to block the entry of impurity and evil and to keep the village at peace. On the road from Inseong-ri towards Dansan there is a broad flat area called "Albaengdi," where four bangsatap once stood. They had been built because fires frequently broke out in the village and livestock kept sickening and dying, but when a military training camp was established there in the 1950s, soldiers demolished them, leaving only two standing. Of these two, this tower is the one on the east side. Its upper section has largely collapsed, and the stone figure that once stood on top now lies separately beside the tower. Its exact height is unknown, but given that its base diameter is 210 cm, it is presumed to have been at least about 2 m tall.
