A bangsatap is a stone tower built collectively by a village at a point where an ill omen was thought to appear in a particular direction, or where the energy (gi) of the terrain was considered weak; it is an object of folk belief intended to block the entry of impurity and evil and bring peace to the village. On the road from Inseong-ri to Dansan there is a broad flat area called "Albaengdi", where four bangsatap once stood. They were built because fires frequently broke out in the village and livestock repeatedly sickened and died, but in the 1950s, when a military training centre was established there, soldiers demolished them, leaving only two standing. Of these two, this tower is the one on the west, about 100 metres from the eastern tower, and it is relatively well preserved in its original form.
