This building was the residence of Yi Ha-jeon, a member of the royal family during the reign of King Cheoljong of Joseon, and is well known as Dojeonggung. It is presumed that many auxiliary buildings originally stood here, but only the structure corresponding to the sarangchae (men's quarters) remains today. The building now standing was relocated from Sajik-dong to Konkuk University in 1979. Although it is a sarangchae building, it is notable for linking the functions of the anchae (women's quarters) and sarangchae with an eye to practicality and rational use, and for dividing its space appropriately. It further emphasises this rational layout by having the toenmaru, the narrow wooden veranda at the front of every room, run through so that all rooms connect. The decoration of its windows and doors shows some influence of foreign culture, but the building is notable for displaying a commendable aspect of the development of the hanok, the traditional Korean house, in the late Joseon period.
