This house stands on a sloping site, with the sarangchae (men's quarters) placed at the front and the anchae (women's quarters) behind it. The anchae is thought to have been built in the late Joseon period and remodelled around 1924. Apart from the large room, small room and kitchen, the rest of the anchae is laid out as wooden-floored space (maru), giving it an unusual plan in which the shape of the roof varies according to the floor plan beneath it. The sarangchae roof is said to have originally been thatched, and the building is finished very simply.
