This was the house of Yi Man-hyeon, a scholar who died in a fit of outrage when Korea was taken over by Japan in 1910; the present owner is his great-grandson. It is a □-shaped house in which the anchae and sarangchae together form a square courtyard, and it is notable for the fact that the sarangchae roof stands higher than that of the anchae. The left-hand roof of the sarangchae is a matbae (gable) roof, whose end takes the shape of the character 人 (person), while the right-hand side is finished as a paljak (hipped-and-gable) roof, whose end takes the shape of the character 八 (eight). The house was moved from Wonchon-dong to its present site in 1976, after Wonchon-dong was submerged by the building of Andong Dam, and it is now used as a venue for traditional weddings.
