Garyudong Bak Clan Old House
가류동박씨고가 · 加流洞朴氏古家

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is an old house that well preserves the characteristics of a kkachigumeong-jip (a traditional house type with a smoke-vent hole in the roof), a form common in the Andong region. It originally stood in Garyu-dong, Wolgok-myeon, but was relocated and rebuilt at its present site in 1975 because of the construction of Andong Dam. In a kkachigumeong-jip, a hole is cut into the triangular section beneath both ends of the ridge of the thatched roof to let smoke generated inside the house escape. This house, too, originally had a thatched roof, but it was changed to a tiled roof about 150 years ago. It has a form of three bays across the front and two bays on the side, with one additional bay projecting on the right. At the centre of the front is the main hall with an earthen floor, used for entry, behind which lies a wooden-floored hall flanked by rooms on either side. Although it has undergone some alteration, the house retains well the enclosed structure characteristic of a kkachigumeong-jip.
