This is the thatched house of Bae Chan-yeol in Bongdongni, Goseong. The main house (anchae) is said to have been lived in for four generations, while the lower house (araechae) is said to have been built in the time of Bae Chan-yeol's grandfather. The main house measures two bays across the front and one bay on the side; its side and rear walls are built of rough fieldstones with the gaps filled with clay. The lower house measures three bays across the front and one bay on the side, with a toenmaru (narrow wooden veranda) and a firebox set into the front half-bay. The centre bay is an ondol (heated) room, and the bays on either side are used as sheds. The main house is notable for retaining one of the most primitive forms found among common houses.
