Mukgyeseowon Confucian Academy is dedicated to the memory of, and holds memorial rites for, the scholars Eunggye Ok Go (1382–1436) and Bobaekdang Kim Gye-haeng (1431–1517). It was built in the thirteenth year of King Sukjong (1687), but when the order abolishing Confucian academies was issued in the sixth year of Emperor Gojong (1869), its shrine was demolished, leaving only the lecture hall standing; the academy has since been restored. The lecture hall is a typical structure of five bays across the front and two bays deep, with a wooden floor laid in the centre and underfloor-heated (ondol) rooms on either side, in the usual arrangement for such halls. To the left of the academy stands a quadrangular, courtyard-style building that manages its affairs. Mukgye Head House stands at the centre of a village not far from the academy. Within the head house is Bobaekdang, which is used as the hall where ancestral memorial rites are held.
