Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis yoyeo — a palanquin used to carry a spirit tablet during ancestral rites — belonging to the Muan Bak clan was made in 1871, when Noeun Seowon in Hongseong was abolished, for use in ancestral rites. It was used to enshrine the spirit tablet of Seong Sam-mun at the Amcheongong Jaesil memorial hall in Sangwol-myeon, Nonsan, and again in 1903, when a descendant was designated to carry on Seong Sam-mun's ancestral rites, to enshrine his spirit tablet at Munjeolsa Shrine. The exterior of the yoyeo is painted in red, grey and white, and the ceiling, made of woven fabric, takes the shape of a flattened dome, with a bead-shaped ornament attached to the centre of the roof. Red eaves were made on all four sides, with hinged windows on the left, right and rear and double doors at the front. A narrow wooden floor and an iron railing were fitted beneath the palanquin, and ansang (niche-shaped decorative panels) were carved on the top, bottom, left and right of the door frames on all four sides and painted red, grey and black; iron fittings were used at the four corners and on the doors to add both form and strength. It is currently held in the Chungcheongnam-do History Museum.
