This house is said to have been built in 1874, the eleventh year of Emperor Gojong, by Han Sang-ryong, using black pine timber brought from the Amnokgang River. It is composed mainly of a servants' quarters (haengnangchae), an inner quarters (anchae) and a men's quarters (sarangchae); unlike the typical upper-class houses of the Seoul region, the sarangchae and anchae here are joined together in a single block. A storeroom and a kitchen flank the main gate, and the sarangchae contains four rooms and a wooden-floored hall (daecheong), linked to the anchae by a long narrow veranda. The anchae has a narrow outer bay at both front and back, with the kitchen, main room, daecheong and side room arranged in a single straight line. A detached annexe stands in the north-west of the rear garden. A late Joseon-period house in good condition, it is notable for the decorative main gate leading into the sarang courtyard and for the wall facing the inner courtyard.
