The Dongje of Songdeok-ri, Goesan is a folk belief of the village community in which a zelkova tree in the sacred grove at the entrance to the village is worshipped as the guardian tree, with a seonangje (village guardian rite) and the communal dongje held at a five-storey stone pagoda and a three-storey stone pagoda. The five-storey stone pagoda, presumed to date from the Goryeo period, reflects both geomantic (pungsu) belief and pagoda worship together, and the dongje is performed on the night of New Year's Day by the lunar calendar.
